In the whirlwind of life, there is an unspoken pressure to strive for perfection. We are bombarded with images of flawless homes, impeccably behaved children, and seemingly effortless marriages on social media, leaving many of us feeling inadequate in comparison. But what if I told you that perfection is not only unattainable but also unnecessary?
Letting go of perfectionism is not a sign of weakness; it is an act of courage and surrender. It is about embracing the messy, imperfect, beautifully chaotic reality of life and finding grace in the journey.
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." (2 Corinthians 12:9)
I love this verse so much because it speaks volumes about the relationship God wants us to have with Him. He doesn't want us to be perfect; instead, when we are weak, when we mess up, when we fall short, it shows more of His power, His unconditional love, and the strength He gives us to overcome. But that power, love, and strength only come through Him and from Him!
God doesn't want us to pretend. He doesn't want us to come to Him with a facade that our lives are perfect and put together. He wants us to come and surrender and say, "Lord, here I am! I am not perfect. I recognize that striving for perfection is not pleasing to you because it doesn't allow me to live a life in a posture of surrender. Striving for perfection steals the joy of the life God has blessed us with. Wanting our lives to be or look perfect allows us to fall into the lie and trap of comparison." Which we all already know, that ain't fun.
I constantly tell myself "Do your best and let God do the rest". I know that my best is not always going to be how I want it to look like, perfect! Why? because I am human. My human nature is not supposed to be perfect so why am I getting in the way of God from doing His will when I'm striving to be something I am not? When God sees that I tried and that I just did my best, HE WILL DO THE REST! It is now in His hands to do His perfect will!
So, friend, this is your reminder to continue to strive for a life that pleases the Lord. Embrace your life with gratitude, surrendering every need of wanting to take control, and with open arms receive the grace God gives you everyday.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
WOW- Letting go of perfectionism is not a sign of weakness; it is an act of courage and surrender.
