Twenty Years Ago...

Twenty years ago, on the Fourth of July, I arrived in the USA. We moved after my parents lost everything, and we were pretty much homeless. I grew up in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and we moved around a lot because my parents wanted to give us a better life. Arriving in the USA as an eleven-year-old was scary. I did not know the language or the culture. It was all new to us. I remember not having any food and having to go to food pantries to pick up expired cans of food. I remember my parents taking us to the Department of Children and Families to ask for help. My parents did not know English, and I thought I knew a little bit, so I would translate for them, or at least I thought I was. I remember having to sleep with our coats because we did not have a heater in the apartment where we lived. I look back and think of the sacrifice my parents had to make just so that my siblings and I could have a better future. As a child, I was just grateful to be with my parents and have God with us. I never complained because I knew that one day God would surprise us and give us a better life. My parents worked extra hard, and within a year we were moving into a beautiful home, we found a home church, and we made new friends. As hard as it was to move here and go through all that, I am grateful for the way God has always been faithful!

I am grateful for the country we get to live in. I am grateful we get to worship Jesus and share His gospel freely. I know it can be overwhelming to think of our country as a good place to live when you go on social media and see all the things that are going on, or the presidential debate, or inflation. But the enemy wants to use those things to bring our hearts to a place of ungratefulness and frustrations. I want to encourage you to take a moment and pray for our country every moment you can. Being consistent in prayer is the only action we can take that will actually make a difference.

We pray over our nation for a JESUS REVIVAL!

That our government would place God as the foundation of our country.

That every law would honor God!

That the authorities over this country would love God and love people!

That prayer returns to schools!

That America would not conform to the things and ways of evil.

That God's grace and favor would reign over this country.

America for Jesus!

Amen!

Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
